OPALUS
The term "opal" comes from the word "opalus," a Greek-derived term (opallios), meaning "to see a change in color."
Black opal is considered the most valuable variety of opal.
According to an ancient Australian aboriginal legend, God came down from heaven on a rainbow and pronounced a message of peace for all mankind. The stones near the place where God laid his feet suddenly came to life and began to sparkle. At that moment, it is said, the opal was born.
In ancient Rome, opal represented hope and purity of soul, and protective powers against disease were also linked to the gemstone, particularly on the areas of the body on which the mineral rested.
